The special issue “Land management at the heart of the future of Alpine territories” attempts to answer the following question: Between political arbitrations and markets, is it possible to identify specific land management methods in mountain territories? Research on this subject is sparse even as the land issue is back after a decade of increasing land and real-estate prices. This issue provides a few possible answers, which are developed along four lines: public action revisited against a yardstick of the concept of land resource; land development in the light of the problem of secondary residences; the socio-spatial consequences of the dynamics of the real-estate market; and lastly, housing in a cross-border space.
