Alpine glaciers melting ever faster

The glaciers of the Alps could well disappear sooner than expected. Researchers now believe that in thirty years' time only the largest and highest glaciers will be left.

Only six months ago they had calculated that by 2100 alpine glaciers would be reduced at best to pitiful patches. New forecasts show that most glaciers could well have disappeared by as early as 2037 if the ice melt continues at the same pace as in the past few years.
