Green Deals for Municipalities
With the “European Green Deal”, the European Commission aims to reduce net emissions of greenhouse gases to zero by 2050 and thus become climate neutral. The “Green Deals for Municipalities” project strengthens climate protection at both local and regional levels.
Local processes
The climate protection initiatives are formed in the pilot municipalities via participation processes that are assisted by experts. Members of these initiatives initially learn how to identify fields of action for local climate protection by looking at and interpreting the current situation: they then receive an overview of civic engagement and best practice projects in the field of local climate protection.
Working with the appropriate municipal bodies, the climate protection teams then create a catalogue of measures in which all projects and plans are coordinated and defined. Citizens are empowered and assisted in implementing these measures themselves. At the end of each project, the climate protection initiatives are in a position to plan and implement further projects independently and carry out sustainable climate protection locally.
