CIPRA Slovenija
CIPRA Slovenia, Association for Protection of the Alps, exists since 1985 as an informal committee, in form of NGO since 2000 and since 2004 in the form of association.
Our purpose
The purpose of CIPRA Slovenia is to preserve the Alps as a natural, cultural and living space.
- Striving for sustainable development of mountain areas, conservation of the natural and cultural heritage and mountain landscapes,
- establishment of Alpine Convention as an umbrella document for sustainable development in the Alps,
- influence on the shaping of local, regional and national spatial policy in the mountains,
- encourage the Alpine region to make the transition to a low-carbon society,
- creation of synergies in the Slovenian mountain environment between development actors,
- building trust and creating a name for the central environmental organisation for the mountains in Slovenia,
- extend the idea of mountain protection to the Dinaric Alps.
Our Tasks
Our activities are based on Alpine Convention (Act of Ratification of the Convention on the Protection of the Alps, Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia No. 19/95), which Slovenia signed in 1993 and ratified in 1995. We have thus committed ourselves to implementing its provision or measures, which are defined more precisely in the protocols for individual areas. The Protocols and their provisions entered into force in April 2004, after Slovenia ratified all written implementation protocols sent to Alpine Convention at the end of November 2003.
Cooperation
CIPRA Slovenia cooperates with domestic and foreign NVO and other organisations, companies, municipalities, citizens' movements and individuals. As part of its program, the Association offers partnership with state institutions in the field of information, expertise and research, environmental protection projects.
