Mountain Partnership member, the Centre for Alpine Ecology / Centro di Ecologia Alpina (CEA), is an Italian research institute that promotes, co-ordinates and develops research projects on the alpine environment at the local and transboundary levels. This new publication explores sustainable development processes in five marginalized alpine communities of the north-eastern Italian region of Trentino Alto Adige. Using participatory action research, author Michela Zucca analyses demographic trends, the incidence of traditional rural activities alongside more innovative sectors such as tourism, ICT and networking and the constraints and opportunities for community development, especially for young people and women.
