Hike at the Marinet Glacier at St-Paul-sur-Ubaye
"The association Alpes Là organized in a partnership with CIPRA, a UTOPIA Day in St-Paul-sur-Ubaye. A hike on a section on the Via Alpina was the opportunity to present this itinerary crossing the entire Alps and at the same time, raise awareness about preserving the environment. The idea of proposing a UTOPIA Day in the project Via Alpina Youth came after a hiking tour that I completed on the Via Alpina across Austria, Switzerland and Germany. I discovered that this itinerary was little known despite its interest: It’s a beautiful way to discover breathtaking landscapes, amazing cultures and different people not only thanks to the local citizens but also thanks to the others hikers. To organize this day, we decided to invite to 2 women specialized in natural environment: Fanny Brun, a glaciologist from the Institut des Geoscience et de l’Environnement and Delphine Michel, a mountain accompanist from the Ubaye Valley. Two speakers who reminded us that women have their place in sciences and mountains. We could, with all the group, hike to the foot of the white glacier of the Marinet, one of the last glaciers of the french southern alps which has significantly melted the last century. This hike was also the opportunity to discover and climb on a rock glacier. To end the day, I presented some pictures of my experiences of the Via Alpina during a conference at the Maljasset Shelter: I shared some good ideas to go to the Via Alpina without a car and to do it in bivouac."
